ComfyUI hits a $500M valuation as creators seek more control over AI-generated media

ComfyUI, the node-based toolkit for steering diffusion models across image, video, and audio generation, has raised $30 million at a $500 million valuation. The round was led by Craft Ventures, with Pace Capital, Chemistry, and TruArrow also participating.

A $500 million valuation is a big number. The more interesting part is why investors think ComfyUI deserves it. They’re betting that hands-on control over generative workflows has real staying power, especially for people who’ve outgrown prompt boxes and one-click apps.

That matters if you build with generative models, not just if you track AI funding.

Why ComfyUI has traction

ComfyUI started as an open-source project in 2023, early in the diffusion boom, when model outputs still failed in obvious ways. Hands broke. Faces drifted. You could get a striking result quickly, but getting the same kind of result twice, or shaping it step by step, was harder.

That’s where ComfyUI found its audience. A node-based interface gives users tighter control over how generations are built, adjusted, and repeated. For artists, studios, and technical teams, that level of control is the product.

There’s a trade-off. Tools like ComfyUI are more powerful, but they’re also less approachable than consumer AI apps built around a single text box. That can limit mainstream reach. It can also be the reason serious users stick around.

The other risk is familiar: once an open-source tool turns into a heavily funded company, users start watching for licensing changes, product gating, or a shift away from the community that made the tool matter in the first place.
